About

I'm Chao Wu (伍超 in Chinese), a builder and entrepreneur based in San Diego, California.

Work

I'm currently exploring AI, learning, building, and developing new startup ideas.

I've been through various roles: software engineer, engineering manager, product lead, AI consultant, and founder.

Previously, I was a co-founder of mobile game studio Redemption Games, where I led engineering and product development for multiple titles. Our flagship game Sweet Escapes was a top-grossing puzzle game before our acquisition by AppLovin in 2020.

My technical background spans embedded software, full-stack development, mobile games, and AI. While I'm technology-agnostic and love learning new tech, what drives me most is building products people actually need, alongside great teammates.

Running a startup means wearing every hat. I've picked up product, marketing, and ops skills along the way. You learn fast when there's no one else to do it.

Education

I hold dual Bachelor's degrees in Computer Engineering and Mathematics from Beihang University in China.

I started a PhD in Computer Science at Purdue University but left early with a Master's degree when I realized academia wasn't for me and wanted to pursue entrepreneurship instead.

Beyond Work

Music has been central to my life since I started piano at age 6, later learning guitar in college. Classic rock and blues are my favorite genres to play and listen to.

I'm passionate about outdoor sports. You'll often find me running along San Diego's coastline, catching waves, or carving down mountain slopes snowboarding.

When I'm not active, I'm usually reading. My go-to genres are business books, biographies of interesting people, and sci-fi novels.
